'Border' wins top prize in Sweden

Oscar nominee 'Border' by Iranian-Swedish director Ali Abbasi has been the big winner of the 54th Guldbagge Awards in Sweden.

Abbasi's genre-bending flick, which also won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes last year, picked up six trophies at the Swedish film event, including award for best film, best supporting actor and best actress.

‘Border’ also scooped several technical awards, including award for Best Sound Recording, Best Special Effects and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Inspired by Scandinavian folklore, ‘Border’ is based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

It is about two trolls who find love in modern-day Sweden.

‘Border’ is also an Oscar nominee for best makeup and hairstyling.

The 54th Guldbagge Awards ceremony is an official and annual Swedish film awards ceremony honoring achievements in the Swedish film industry.

The event took place on January 28, 2019 in Stockholm and the nominees were awarded on January 3, 2019.
